Waiting On Wednesday is originally hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, but we just love this meme so much we had to tag along! Each Wednesday, one of the Lit Up Review writers will post a book she is looking forward to, along with the summary and cover. You can find all of these posts by clicking on the category button and selecting “Waiting on Wednesday,” and fill up your Goodreads shelves with great books to get excited about!

Hotel RubyHotel Ruby by Suzanne Young | Goodreads
Release Date: November 3, 2015
Publisher: Sourcebooks

Stay Tonight. Stay Forever.

When Audrey Casella arrives for an unplanned stay at the grand Hotel Ruby, she’s grateful for the detour. Just months after their mother’s death, Audrey and her brother, Daniel, are on their way to live with their grandmother, dumped on the doorstep of a DNA-matched stranger because their father is drowning in his grief.

Audrey and her family only plan to stay the night, but life in the Ruby can be intoxicating, extending their stay as it provides endless distractions—including handsome guest Elias Lange, who sends Audrey’s pulse racing. However, the hotel proves to be as strange as it is beautiful. Nightly fancy affairs in the ballroom are invitation only, and Audrey seems to be the one guest who doesn’t have an invite. Instead, she joins the hotel staff on the rooftop, catching whispers about the hotel’s dark past.

The more Audrey learns about the new people she’s met, the more her curiosity grows. She’s torn in different directions—the pull of her past with its overwhelming loss, the promise of a future that holds little joy, and an in-between life in a place that is so much more than it seems…

Welcome to the Ruby.

Scary movies are not my cup of tea, but even I can recognize the classic horror film and book The Shining. Although I haven’t read Stephan King’s popular novel myself {and, believe me, I have no plans to do so anytime soon}, I was still reminded of the hotel-set horror story when I discovered Suzanne Young’s newest release, Hotel Ruby.

I refuse to watch scary movies, but oddly enough, I don’t apply that same philosophy to books. I actually crave the darker and more intense stories as the days grow shorter and the weather grows colder, in contrast to the summertime, when I stock up on cute middle grade releases and lighter YA beach reads. So long as it isn’t too terrifying – and early reviewers have promised this is a-okay – I’m game.

With a chilling cover, an intriguing synopsis, and a creepy tagline to boot, Hotel Ruby has my attention. The only question that remains is: why is November so far off?!
